We depend on Allah for whatever we do:
We don't need anything from Allah. But we depend on Allah for everything we do. Allah is the 'Single' He is free from all kinds of needs. He is 'Hamid.' Even if no one praises him, no one expresses gratitude to him - he praises himself.
Praise and gratitude to Allah are present even if nothing exists. Moreover, whatever we have - وَآتَاكُم مِّن كُلِّ مَا سَأَلْتُمُوهُ - "He has given you everything you asked for." (14:34) - Allah has given you everything you need. This is Allah's claim on us. We are constantly Responsible to him.
Lastly, Allah bounties to us are so innumerable and innumerable that if we give thanks in every breath, we will not be able to give thanks for even a small blessing.
